Is it free?
Yes. You can download it and use it on your own computers for personal or work use, free of charge. It is not open source; see the licence.
Does Nibi send my data anywhere?
No. Nibi has no servers, no accounts and no telemetry, and it never stores your prompts, the agents' replies or tool inputs. The only network calls are the services you switch on talking to their own servers (GitHub through gh, Vercel, your DevPulse, your calendar feed), AI talk if you turn it on, and a daily check of GitHub for a newer version, which you can turn off. The privacy page has the details.
Why does Windows warn me when I run the installer?
This build is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen does not know it. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Updates are still safe: each one is signed with Nibi's own key and checked before it is installed.
Which agents work with it?
Claude Code and Codex through their hooks, VS Code with Copilot agent hooks and a small extension, and Antigravity and ChatGPT, which Nibi infers and draws dashed. It also follows GitHub CI and reviews, Vercel, DevPulse, your calendar and music.
Will it slow my PC down?
Measured on the developer's PC: asleep with the panel closed, Nibi uses about 1% of one CPU core; busy and animating at 60 frames a second, about 3 to 5%. The panel only exists while it is open.
Can Nibi talk with AI, using my own key or a local model?
Yes, if you want it to. AI talk is optional and off by default. Switch it on in Settings and pick a provider with your own API key, or a local model on your PC. Your key is kept in Windows Credential Manager, never in a file. Nibi sends only short event summaries to the provider you picked, never your prompts, code or the agents' replies.
Give Nibi a free brain
Nibi can think with a small model that runs on your own PC: free, offline, no account and no key, and nothing leaves your computer. In Settings → Give life to Nibi, press Set up in one click: Nibi checks your PC and suggests the best free option, downloads its brain if needed (about 490 MB, or 390 MB on PCs with less than 4 GB of memory) and says hello. Downloads are checked against pinned checksums and resume if they stop. The brain wakes up when Nibi has something to say and naps after 5 minutes. From a terminal: nibi-hook brain download qwen2.5-0.5b, then nibi-hook brain use qwen2.5-0.5b.
How do I uninstall it?
Settings → Apps → Nibi → Uninstall, or irm https://niranjand.in/nibi/uninstall.ps1 | iex, or scoop uninstall nibi if you used Scoop. The uninstaller removes every agent hook Nibi added before it deletes any files. Your history is kept unless you tick Delete the application data (or delete %APPDATA%\Nibi).
How do I report a bug?
Use Send report in Nibi: it opens a GitHub issue in your browser with the details filled in, and nothing is posted until you have read it and pressed Submit. You can also open an issue yourself at github.com/Niranjan266/nibi-releases.
Does it need admin rights?
No. It installs for you only, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nibi, without an admin prompt. The one-command install and Scoop do the same.
How does it update?
Once a day Nibi asks GitHub whether a newer version exists. It installs one only when you press Install, and every update is signature-checked. You can switch the check off in Settings.
